New Year's Wishes

New Year's Wishes

May you get a clean bill of health from your dentist, your cardiologist, your gastro-enterologist, your urologist, your proctologist, your podiatrist, your psychiatrist, your plumber and the I.R.S. /IT DEPT

May your hair, your teeth, your face-lift, your abs and your stocks not fall; and may your blood pressure, your triglycerides, your cholesterol, your white blood count and your mortgage interest not rise.

May New Year's Eve find you seated around the table, together with your beloved family and cherished friends. May you find the food better, the environment quieter, the cost much cheaper, and the pleasure much more fulfilling than anything else you might ordinarily do that night.

May what you see in the mirror delight you, and what others see in you delight them. May someone love you enough to forgive your faults, be blind to your blemishes, and tell the world about your virtues.

May the telemarketers wait to make their sales calls until you finish dinner, may the commercials on TV not be louder than the program you have been watching, and may your check book and your budget balance - and include generous amounts for charity.

May you remember to say "I love you" at least once a day to your spouse, your child, your parent, your siblings; but not to your secretary, your nurse, your masseuse, your hairdresser or your tennis instructor.

And may we live in a world at peace and with the awareness of God's love in every sunset, every flower's unfolding petals, every baby's smile, every lover's kiss, and every wonderful, astonishing, miraculous beat of our heart.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Buy signals

Petronet LNG (Six months, daily)

I have uploaded the Petronet chart here. This is to revise our buy signals. Starting with trend line breakout the chart has indicated buy in this stock. Notice the price volume break out, rising MACD and histogram on the positive side. In ADX, notice green line has crossed the red line and black line is indicating a trend. Notice slow stochastic indicating a buy. Arrows are marked to indicate these events.

NIFTY View

NIFTY ( daily, six months)

I have been away on vacation and training programmes. Hence this long gap in writing new posts. Our strategy of buying blue chips on dips is working absolutely fine. Systematic investments every month are going to give us good returns in 12 to 18 months. Market sentiment as indicated by NIFTY is still weak. 3156 is apparently the resistance. 2500 has been a good support where MACD has crossed over. Histogram is showing strength meaning short sellers are unable to move the market below 2700 or so. This bull bear fight is going to last for some time before any significant trend emerges. A break out above 3156 is good for bulls and a break down below 2500 is good for bears. Till then money power is being tested by both camps. Let us see how this unfolds.

Future ahead

I have been reading about the terrorist attack and its implications for Indian economy. While many commentators ( Indian or foreign) are unanimous in saying that our economy would grow, almost everyone is quite circumspect about our ability to fight terror effectively as a nation. Our security forces have proven that we are very good at 'reactive' means of fighting terror. Meaning we react effectively and courageously. Reactive means involve direct confrontation with the enemy. Here the enemy is a well trained and motivated person engaging in urban warfare.  Our security forces are capable of fighting that. Collateral damage is an area of concern but that would be a difficult topic to debate.

What is lacking however is 'proactive' means of fighting terror.I thought about it very deeply over the last few days. The answers are so obvious and eye popping. In proactive means the effectiveness stems from the acquisition and analysis of intelligence inputs. These are high level issues involving senior government functionaries. In Mumbai attacks it is here that the lapses were observed.
As citizens we need to resolve this weak area. Citizens anger is palpable but it needs to be channelised. People we elect for governance must be reminded regularly that their task lies in providing us safety and security. They are not 'rulers' but our 'public servants'. They are not merely for passing files from one department to another but to take action to prevent such repetitions in future.
Our ability to grow as an economic power will depend on how we handle the threat of terrorism. Conventional wars fought across the international borders are passe long back. We are into urban and stealth, deceitful and ruthless warfare against a faceless enemy. Everyone of us is a soldier in this war. We must be prepared and fight it to win. Our future depends on this awareness.
